After a last beautiful day in Queenstown, where we went with Michel, Monica and Josh with our van to the snow, I took the bus to Christchurch.
17 May 2012 – Simon in Prison
Arrived in Christchurch I had to go to the Jailhouse. Luckily just for 3 days so I were able to catch my flight on time, though.
18 May 2012 – A city without city centre
As I was allowed to leave the prison for some hours of the day, I went to the city centre of Christchurch. However, after the big earthquake in 2010 the whole city centre had been closed for pedestrians. It was impressive to see, how useless buildings can be if you can’t guarantee their safety.
19 May 2012 – Rugby
New Zealand is known as one of the world leading rugby countries. It would have been a shame if I wouldn’t have seen a game. As luck would have it there was a game at my last day. Eventually I got ticket and went to the game. The opening show was great but rugby probably not my game.
20 May 2012 – Set the alarm for the final
If one want to see the Champions League Final in New Zealand, one have to wake up very early. So I set my alarm to 6 am, woke up, saw how Bayern lost, walked 2 hours to the airport and took the flight to Australiaaaaaaaaaa…
New Zealand
All in all it was nice to have been there. The road trip was good, the south island beautiful and the variety of landscapes amazing. The more I’ve seen, the more I liked the two little islands at the end of the world. New Zealand is a perfect destination for backpackers, teenagers after high school or older people who want to enjoy beautiful nature. It is safe and very easy to travel. For me, however, NZ doesn’t have a real culture and I think the Kiwis would even sell their soul if tourists would pay for it, especially to Asians or Germans.
Next stop Sydney…
