Hong Kong 3D

23 June 2012 – Too much Asia

Arrived in Hong Kong, I had to find a place to stay. As all the hostels were fully booked because of the Dragon Boat Festival, I had to go to Chungking Mansion (recommended by Lonely Planet as a cheap place to stay). Chungking Mansion is a big building with a market on ground floor, which one has to enter to get to the elevators. These elevators bring you to dozens of guesthouses. The guesthouse I’ve chosen wasn’t that bad but the market on ground floor was a bit weird.  After 10 hours flight and some hours running through Hong Kong to find a place to sleep, I slept very well.

24 June 2012 – Nan Lian Garden and Ten Thousand Buddhas

I started my day finding another hostel. The Chungking Mansion was an experience but enough for one night. Luckily I found the Yesinn in Causeway Bay, one of the shopping areas on Hong Kong Island. A very nice hostel where I felt much better and booked in for the next 3 nights.

Since Hong Kong is more than just “one” city, there is more to see than the city centre. Honk Kong is actually some islands whit more to see than only the skyline. For instance, some temples and a lot of golden buddhas.

The Hong Kong Lightshow

But there is of course, the world famous skyline, the worlds best what I’ve heard, lit by some spots and coloured lights every eventing for 10 minutes. Not too bad but I expected more after I’ve seen vivid in Sydney.

25 June 2012 – The Big Buddha

Rio has Christ and Hong Kong has Buddha.

26 June 2012 – Peak Tram

In Honk Hong there is any public transportation one can imagine. Tram, cable car, bus, metro, train, taxi, ferry, what ever you like. Today I tried the peak tram to see the city from its highest viewing point. Not too bad and very, very steep!

27 June 2012 – Leaving the city!

Before I will finish this post, I will tell you some of my impressions of Hong Kong. What a crazy city! Not only the skyscrapers are high, the humidity and density of people as well.

People

Sometimes I felt like in between ants. Once I thought its raining since some women opened their umbrellas but actually it was just the sun they protected from.

Cars

As you might now, Asia is currently the biggest market for nearly everything. They consume a lot, have money and like to show off. While walking through the streets I felt like visiting a car exhibition, luxury German cars wherever one’s looking.

Food

Actually I wanted to try a lot of Asian food but finally tried only some. These pictures were taken before I tried it, afterward I usually felt a bit sick. Luckily, I didn’t have to puke in a booth on the street what would have been awkward.

However, the Chinese fast food was quite good and my chopstick skills became better.

333 Diamonds

In Brisbane, I booked a 5 days/4 nights tour for Fiji, to make the best out of the few days I’d stay there. The Peter Pan Travel Agency had a good deal for about 115 €, with accommodation, meals, airport pick-up and island transfers to and from Robinson Crouse Island. I expected not much but got a lot.

18 June 2012 – Nadi (pronounced “Nandi”) and some Islands

Usually, when one arrive at the airport, some security officers, the immigration staff and hopefully your luggage is waiting. But Fiji is different. The Fijians welcome you with Fijian live music, performed by some happy Fijian men with guitars, colourful shirts and flours in their hair.

Arrived at the ho(s)tel it really felt like holidays and not travelling anymore. Breakfast on a terrace directly at the beach, palm trees and and a lot of sun.

Then I checked in, got one of the 30 bunk-beds in the largest dorm I’ve ever seen, did an Island round trip and saw what probably everyone expect of Fiji. Unfortunately I’m not able to show you how beautiful it actually was since no camera in the world, no photoshoped picture or video could ever describe it.

On one Island there was even a little village with a school.

20-22 June 2012 – Robinson Crouse Island

Visiting Fiji without staying on one of those 333 small islands, is probably like visiting a country without leaving the airport. Luckily, in my tour package were two nights on Robinson Crouse included. The Island was great and the staff of the resort has shown a lot of Fijian culture, like “how to climb a coconut tree and open the coconut with a wooden stick”, cooking “lovo” on fire and fire dancing. Unfortunately, only one of the two days there was good weather, the second day it rained like hell.

Greetings to my family and the proof that a Hummel has been on Fiji!

23 June 2012 – Goodbye Paradise

All good things come to an end. After another night in Nadi, I left Fiji on a Boing 747-400, where I sit right now for more than 10 hours, listening to music, playing some games on my mobile and writing this blog. I hope you enjoyed it so far and follow me in Asia.
